Being a new grandparent gives you the opportunity to experience all over again the joys a new baby brings. Babies are both entertaining and educational.
Consider feeding time. A baby has little patience with hunger. It fusses, then wails for you to give it something. Sometimes it is so anxious -- lunging and working its lips so intensely -- that it is difficult for you to even get the bottle in its mouth. Only a few hours have elapsed since the last feeding, but you would think it has been days! The infant slurps and smacks as it gulps, seemingly fearful that you will at any moment remove its precious milk supply.
"Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation" (1 Pet. 2:2).
Wouldn't it be great to be around Christians with that kind of enthusiasm for God's word? They would routinely read their Bibles at home. They would come early for Bible study without being begged. They would study their lessons ahead of time, enabling them to make informed comments during the class. They would listen during the preaching instead of parading in and out of the auditorium. They would stay awake.
Okay, I admit it, a baby does occasionally fall asleep during its feeding. But when all the rest are slurping it up, I think the feeder can handle that.
